About My Organization

Federal Medical Centre (formerly known as Queen Elizabeth Specialist Hospital), Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria is a 327-bed tertiary hospital and one of the leading health care providers in south eastern Nigeria. The facility is centrally located and readily accessible from Enugu, Imo, Rivers, Ebonyi, Akwa-Ibom and Anambra States. The hospital clients and patients are drawn from all over the country but predominantly from the south-east and south-south part of the country. The facility currently boasts of staff strength of ……including 71 consultants in 26 discipline areas. The discipline areas include among others internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, community medicine and family medicine. There is a also a vibrant residency training program in place in the institution. The average number of patients seen per year is about 80.000 and adolescent population constitutes about 15% of them.

Adolescent health services provided in the institution include pre-school medical examination, treatment of illnesses, management of teenage pregnancy and its complications and HIV counselling and testing services. These services are provided principally by paediatrics, family medicine, community medicine and obstetrics and gynaecology departments, hence the composition of the team.

Goal

To establish a youth and adolescent friendly healthcare services for holistic care in Federal Medical Centre Umuahia

Process Objective: 

To Get the Top management of the hospital to buy-in and support the establishment of the youth and adolescent friendly centre by 5th October, 2013. 

To Secure accommodation, equip the centre and train the staff by end of February 2014.

Outcome Objective

To start seeing patient/clients at the centre for youth and adolescent friendly health services in Federal Medical Center, Umuahia by end of August 2014.
