About the organization

This is a combination of three organizations working in public-private partnership with the mandate of managing and coordination of health care delivery system at the primary and secondary level with a view of providing quality health care for the residents of Ondo state.

  • The primary health care development board is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the primary health care activities in the 18 LGAs of the state while the Hospitals management Board coordinates the secondary health facilities.
  • There are 545 PHC facilities and 24 General, Specialist and Tertiary Hospitals
  • InStrat Global Health Solution is a private firm that provides solutions using cutting edge cost effective technology to address specific health care delivery challenges

Mission

To provide leadership that supports the promotion and implementation of high quality and sustainable primary health care for all in Ondo State through resource mobilization, partnership, collaboration, development of community based systems and functional infrastructure.

External Analysis

  • Only 60% of maternal and child health data is accurate, timely and complete hampering decision making on maternal and child health interventions
  • Only 61% of data managers in health facilities have adequate technical knowledge on maternal and child health indicators captured by data tools
  • 91.9% of prerequisite data tools to capture maternal and child health indicators are not available in the healthcare facilities in Ondo state

Goals and Objectives

  • Goal: To increase maternal and child health data quality in order to achieve high quality and sustainable health care delivery system in Ondo state
  • Long term objective: 80% increase in the overall quality of maternal and child health data in Ondo State by December 2019 for improving decision on maternal and child health intervention programmes.
  • Short term objective 1: To increase the quality of maternal and child health data by 60% in Ondo State by December 2016 thereby improving decision making on maternal and child health intervention programmes

Measurement

  • To assess the competency of all data management officers in Ondo state healthcare facilities and reassignment of employment to achieve 100% data management practice compliance by January, 2016.
  • To determine the capacities of all data managers on data tool elements, upload on the District Health Information System, use of CliniPAK tablets and data management process the end of September, 2016
  • To assess the availability of data tools for maternal and child health services by the end of March 2016 hindering comprehensive data capture on MCH services.
  • To increase the number of health facilities using CliniPAK tablets for maternal and child health data capture from 14 to 200 in the state by the end of March, 2016 in order to increase accessibility and availability of the data for decision making

Lessons Learned

  • Clarity on program monitoring and evaluation system has helped to review our CHIP to achieve better results.
  • Understanding the concept of critical analysis of root causes using the “5 whys?” helped to identify external issues and solutions to data management in Ondo state.
  • HIS module provided more insight to challenges and likely solutions to data management
