Synod of Livingstonia Health DepartmentHealth Department is one of the departments of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia that include Education, Church and Society, Relief and Development, Evangelism, LISAP, Youth, Literature and others that are implementing developmental activities in the Synod. The Health Department has three (3) hospitals, eight (8) health centers, one (1) maternity, and the central co-ordinating office. The three hospitals are Embangweni,Ekwenden Mission Hospitals in Mzimba district and DGMH in Rumphi district

The Health Coordinating office has been in existence since 1990 in response to the need of coordinating the work of these health facilities that were being done by a Synod health committee. The three hospitals that have been in existence for over 100 years were then running as independent autonomous entities. In order to ensure uniformity but not necessarily curtailing a health competitive spirit amongst its three hospitals, the health coordinating office was created headed by a Health Coordinator. At the same time a Health Board also came into existence.

Since the establishment of these hospitals communities have accessed treatment of various ailments, implementation of various preventive and promotive activities within the communities such Maternal and Child health.Since the beginning of the AIDS epidermic the department has undertaken several HIV and AIDS related activities in prevention and impact mitigations. The health department covers all the five district in the Northern Region of Malawi
