Amref Health Africa in Kenya is the country programme office of Amref Health Africa, Africa’s largest International Health NGO. This is the largest and oldest country programme in Africa with an average annual budget of USD 40 million. Amref Health Africa in Kenya implements over 40 projects in 47 counties nationwide through five programmatic approaches:- Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Adolescent and Child Health; HIV, AIDS, TB and Malaria; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; and Clinical and Diagnostics. The country office gets involved in emergency response initiatives such as the Drought Response (2009), the Cholera Outbreak Response (2015) and the Garissa University Response (2015).

Problem Area

There is high rate of female genital mutilation among girls (41.5%) in KenyaThere is high rate of female genital mutilation among girls (41.5%) in Kenya In Marsabit county, the prevalence is 91.7%. There is utter defiance of the laws criminalizing FGM and administration is not enforcing themThere is utter defiance of the laws criminalizing FGM and administration is not enforcing themThe community lacks awareness on the dangers of FGM in relation to reproductive and maternal health

To reduce the incidences of FGM from 91.7% to at least 50% in Marsabit county of Kenya by the end of 2017
