About the Organization

The Sekyere Kumawu District (GHS) was created in 2008 and is one of the 30 districts in the Ashanti Region in Ghana with the mandate to provide quality health services to the population. It has Kumawu as the district capital and was inaugurated on the 29th February 2008. For effective management of health services, the district has been subdivided into four sub-districts. They are Bira Owam, Kumawu, Oyoko and Woraso. The sub-districts are further divided into 25 Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) zones along the electoral areas of the district. There are eleven health facilities, eight government and three private health facilities in the district. 

Current Mission

Provide and prudently manage comprehensive and accessible health service with special emphasis on primary health care at regional, district and sub-district levels in accordance with approved national policies 


Proposed New Mission

Improve the health of people in all communities in Sekyere Kumawu District through the provision of high quality health services with sustainable Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) approach by motivated and competent Community Health Officers working with trained community health workers

Long Term Outcome Smart Objective

To provide primary health care at all levels in the Sekyere Kumawu District with communities own participation to attain 80% coverage by 2017. 


Measure

Construct primary health care facilities (CHPS compounds) in four selected deprived areas to increase access to quality health services by 2016 (2 per annum, beginning 2015)
