Background

The CHIP was developed during the MD course organised by UCLA and Amref in NRB, April 2009

Community Health Improvement Project (CHIP) were developed by pax, (strategic initiative to resolve a significant issue or obstacle in our organization)

This took us through a process of conducting environmental analysis, identifying critical issues and/or key problems, reaffirming mission, formulating goals, SMART objectives and strategic options.
Statement of problem:
The key issue identiļ¬ed was
- Only 9% of patients accessing ARV are children (low coverage)
- Only 24% of diagnosed HIV positive infants through DNA/PCR are started on ART.(poor access)
The project area that we selected after this process is to increase # of HIV diagnosed infants started on ARV from 24% to 60%, by May 2010
Project description
Goal:
- To increase # of HIV diagnosed infants started on ARV from 24% to 60%, by May 2010
Smart Objectives:
- Increase percentage of the HEI receiving results from 47% to 90% by June 2010
- Increase enrolment of HIV infected infants into care and treatment from 38% to 90% by June 2010
- Increase percentage of the enrolled infants through EID and initiated ART from 24% to 90% by June 2010
Strategic Option
To increase ART uptake among HIV infected infants by improving Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) services in EGPAF supported regions.
