About The Organization

‘Working together to improve maternal health’ WAHA (Women And Health Alliance) International is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, working to ensure that women are able to access the healthcare services they need to live full and dignified lives.

The organisation was founded in 2009 and has since carried out activities in over twenty countries, grown to over 180 staff members – mainly health workers in Africa – and developed partnerships with over 50 key institutions and individuals with extensive expertise on maternal care issues.

WAHA International is fully registered in Ethiopia as International NGO. Since 2010 WAHA International has been working in partnership with three university teaching hospitals in Gondar, Jimma and Assela to provide fistula repair surgery, integrate fistula care into the training of postgraduate medical students, and reintegration activities for fistula victims treated at all the fistula centres found in these three university hospitals. The organization has established a training centre in Assela for midwives on basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care (BEmONC) for midwives. In addition, in Bokolmayo, Melkadida and Bur Amino camps of Dolo Ado, the organization has been providing vital health care services on comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal care (CEmONC) and reproductive health (RH).

“We partner with Africa and Asian midwife associations, university hospitals, medical specialists and health authorities in order to implement innovative solutions which address the most immediate problems women face when trying to access health care services.”

Proposed New Mission

We partner with local associations, university hospitals, medical specialists, health authorities in order to implement innovative solutions which address the most immediate problems women face when trying to access health care services, improved care and treatment of Obstetric fistula, socio –economic re-integration of women formerly treated for obstetric fistula and capacity building of health care service providers in order to improve maternal health.

Optimizing the uptake of maternal health care and treatment services in North Gondar zone of Ethiopia.

Long Term Outcome Smart Objective

To support the prevention and identification of obstetric fistula cases in women and promote safe motherhood practices for improvement of maternal health through women formerly treated for fistula trained as maternal health advocates by December 2016.
